Which Countries Can Visit China Visa-Free?
China's entry rules have changed faster in the last two years than in the previous two decades. A growing list of countries now enjoy visa-free access, which is why so many travelers are confused about whether they need to apply at all.
The 30-day visa-free list
Many European countries — including France, Germany, Italy, Spain and the Netherlands — currently enjoy a unilateral 30-day visa exemption for tourism. The policy has been repeatedly extended, so check the latest end date before you plan.
The 240-hour transit route
If your country isn't on the visa-free list, the 240-hour (10-day) visa-free transit policy covers roughly 55 nationalities, as long as you're in transit to a third country.
Who still needs a visa
Travelers from countries on neither list need a standard tourist visa, applied for through a Chinese visa application center. It typically takes one to two weeks, so start early.
The golden rule: entry policies are updated frequently, and the authoritative source is your local Chinese embassy or consulate. Never rely on a forum post for something this important.
