The Bund
Tổng quan
The Bund is a mile-long waterfront promenade along the Huangpu River, lined on one side by a row of grand early-20th-century buildings and, on the other, by the glittering skyline of Pudong. It is Shanghai's postcard view and the best free show in the city.
Come twice: once by day to appreciate the architecture and the scale of the river, and again after dark, when the Pudong towers light up and the river cruises glow. The contrast between the neoclassical banking houses and the glass-and-neon towers across the water is the whole story of modern Shanghai in one view.
It is not a "sight" that requires tickets or a plan — it is a walk. Stroll from the Waibaidu Bridge in the north to the ferry terminal in the south, and pause at the mid-point plaza for the classic skyline photograph.

Cách đến
Take Metro Line 2 or 10 to East Nanjing Road, then walk east toward the river for about 10 minutes. The promenade runs north–south; enter anywhere along Zhongshan East Road. A short ferry across to Pudong gives a different angle and is a cheap way to see the skyline from the water.

Lộ trình gợi ý
Start at Waibaidu Bridge for the full length, walk south past the Customs House and Peace Hotel, linger at the central plaza for photographs, then continue to the ferry pier. Cross to Pudong on the ferry for the reverse view, or ride the Bund Sightseeing Tunnel (touristy but fun) back.
Nơi ở
The Bund and nearby East Nanjing Road put you in the thick of it, but hotels here are expensive. Good value alternatives are the former French Concession (leafy, walkable) or Jing'an, both a short metro ride away. For skyline-view rooms you pay a premium — a river-facing room on the Puxi side is worth it once.
Mẹo thực tế
- Go at dusk — you get the architecture in daylight and the skyline lit up.
- The Bund is free; ignore anyone selling "skip the line" tickets.
- Weekday evenings are noticeably calmer than weekends.
- Cross the river on the public ferry for a cheap water view instead of a pricey cruise.
- Bring layers — it is windier on the waterfront than a few streets inland.
